Accessories, Fashion, Runway, Technology The Fashionista’s Notebook

Designers these days are always trying to find new ways to get their names out there. Viktor and Rolf became household names thanks to H&M. Stella McCartney spoke to an entirely different market with her collection for LeSportsac. Lela Rose boosted her name with Lela Rose for Payless. This however, I have not seen…

At Vivienne Tam’s recent Spring 2009 show at New York Fashion Week, we got a glimpse of the new item the designer’s got her name on.

The special edition HP notebook is scheduled to come out next year. it will weigh less than a pound and be small enough in size so it can be carried as a clutch. The exterior of the computer has a red and purple peony print that matched those of Tam’s Spring 2009 designs. The notebook will also come with wallpapers, screen savers and other icons designed by Tam.

Talk about a high-tech accessory!

Fashion, Runway Gucci Goes Mainstream

As I walked out my door this morning, I picked up my copy of WWD and couldn’t help but notice the look on the cover page…yes, none other than a look from Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2009 show in Milan. Having not been a fan of Frida Giannini’s work at last seasons show, I was anxious to see what she had in store for this one. The first thing that popped into my head when I saw pictures of the show…”We are in a recession, there’s no room for surprises”.

The truth is, when I think of brands, I automatically associate a look or style to them. Chanel, Chloé, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein…can you picture them? When I think of Gucci however, my mind goes blank. What is the look of Gucci? Do they have a signature suit? A girly look? American country? Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Don’t get me wrong, the collection definitely had some great pieces; the boyish suits, cute kaftans, nice prints and some elegant dresses, definitely a very sellable line. But it’s Gucci? Where’s the drama? Where are the more editorial pieces? Where is the “omph”?

Entertainment, Fashion, Television Glittering, Glamourous Gossip Girls

It’s been a year since the mischievous scenes of Gossip Girl have started appearing on our TVs. While many tune in to indulge in the glamourous lives of the Upper East Siders, follow the wild parties and applaud the wicked plots, there are some that watch it more so for the fashion. From the established, high-end names of Gucci and Chanel to the neo-contemporary ones such as Alice+Olivia, Alexander Wang and Tory Burch, designer names pop up in almost every scene!

In the Season two premiere, Blair is spotted at the “White Party” in the Hamptons wearing a Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2008 Dress while Serena graces audiences with a white Oscar de la Renta Spring/Summer 2008 gown. Of course, both dresses are sold out at every major retailer!

Episode after episode, fans of the show race to find out what the cast was wearing from CW’s official site and if that doesn’t provide them with the answers they are looking for, they turn to the hundreds of blogs out there dedicated to the show. This trend, most probably started by Sex and the City’s GOD, Patricia Field, is being followed by many shows in hopes to capture a wider, more loyal audience. The fashion on these shows become just as big a part of the show as the characters do. Looks like the tents aren’t the only place for designers to showcase their talents!
