Art → Spotted: Art on the Lower East Side
I saw this at Arlo & Esme the other night and just loved it. I just wish I knew which artist it’s by!

Running out of clothes in your closet? The Swedish furniture retailer, IKEA, suggests bed linen. What an innovative way to advertise products in a fashionable way!
You all know how obsessed I am with what Mrs. O’s pick for her inauguration will be. Here are some of the sketches from WWD that I liked the most.
For the Inauguration Ball…
And for the day, here are my favourites…
It looks like Hello Kitty will be popping up in our handbag soon! Sanrio Global Consumer Products (Ms. Kitty’s parents presumably) has teamed up with MAC cosmetics to create a cosmetics collection for Spring 2009.
The brand will offer two collections – Hello Kitty Colour Collection and Hello Kitty Kouture. The regular collection will offer lipsticks, eye shadows, mascaras, nail polishes, false eye lashes, you know, the regular MAC goods. Prices will average about $12-$12 and shades will range from pinks to turquoises to lavenders to greens. The Kouture collection will offer a larger variety in shades with more lavish packaging and will naturally have higher prices. Both collections will offer other non-makeup products such as makeup bags and totes.
I’m not too sure how I feel about Ms. Kitty’s involvement in makeup. I know she’s idolized by many. In some Asian countries, she’s practically a God and has somewhat of a cult following. At the same time though, I also smell a desperate marketing attempt here. I mean, how is Hello Kitty going to attract customers to buy lipstick??? She doesn’t have a mouth! It’s hard for me to see how a cartoon character can sell such products. I guess we’ll have to wait a few months to see how things turn out.
Ms. Kitty’s cosmetic collections will be available on MAC’s website on February 10 and in stores on February 12 but for all you crazy Hello Kitty fanatics, a waiting list for the items will go live on January 7 at maccosmetics.com!
I recently had to do some runway research and came across none other than my favourite couture show in the history of time – Christian Dior Autumn/Winter 07/08.
John Galliano, or “God” as I more commonly refer to him as, creates the most lavish pieces (that may even pass for art) with such uniqueness. This show, celebrating Dior’s 60th Anniversary and Galliano’s tenth year with the fashion house, truly showed the creativity Galliano brings to our industry.
To relive the brilliantness he brought that season…

Now that Obama wil be taking over, political changes are not the only thing we’re going to see. Turn your attention over to the woman that stands by him and you’ll see what I mean
Not since Jackie O has America had such a hype for a potential First Lady. Throughout Obama’s campaign, Michelle Obama graced the public with her posh sense of style, waving goodbye to the traditional pant-suits and sweater sets. Thank goodness!!! From her hairstyle to her shoes, women are quickly trying to sport Mrs. O’s look.
Michelle’s simple, conservative yet stylish image is quickly becoming a trend, if not already so. Not only does she sport high-end items but cleverly pairs mass-marketed garments with one-of-a-kind designer pieces as well.
The lingering question in everyone’s minds right now…WHO will Mrs.O wear at the Inauguration?
Over the last few seasons, the runways have seen dominance from the boys…on the women’s runway, that is. Looks inspired by menswear and boywear are seeping into all areas of the fashion-forward woman’s wardrobe. The items once considered a norm in a man’s wardrobe can be incorporated into casual or dressed up looks for women. Designers have updated blazers, vests and cardigans and integrated these items to create a look that very much seems very much as though it belongs to a man.
From classic blazers to the boyfriend cardigan, the streets of New York show a variety of key items in this look.
Blazers
Vests
Cardigans
Over the years, designers have paved the way for this look, proving that boyish can be stylish. From the runway to the streets, this trend has slowly made its way into the mass market. The key items that create this look prove to be versatile; great for both day and night and classic closet items as well. Look out for this trend as it continues to evolve over the seasons!
