I went to lunch the other day and got rave reviews on the way I looked so I thought I would share my little secret.  I was wearing something very similar to this in black.  This past Fall, we saw a huge come back of headbands and other head accessories, thanks to characters like Blair Waldorf.  It’s such a great accessory to make your outfit pop.

It’s that time of the year again…when dozens of the slim gold man are handed out.  While everyone was eager to see how many awards Slumdog would sweep, whether Winslet go another year without an Oscar and the fight between Rourke and Penn, I was more excited about what the stars would be parading down the red carpet in.  Okay, maybe I was looking forward to the other things too…

Floral Inspired Elegance

Most of these gowns incorporated elements of flowers such as petals from the waist down taking elegance to another level.

The Power of Red

You would think that stars in red gowns would blend in with the carpet but these women popped in the variations of sharp red gowns.

These gowns in light shades of cream brought some chic-ness to the red carpet.

Return of the Fish Tail

We saw this silhouette dominate at the Golden Globes earlier this year so it’s no surprise that it’s appeared again.  Tight fitted bodices and a free-flowing bottom definitely flatter a woman’s figure!

These stars prommed it out like they were Cinderella looking for their Prince…in their own way of course!

These gowns seemed like they were made from origami, giving the stars a very modern look.

Statement Jewellery

Aside from the gowns, the jewellery on the red carpet this year were very much in tune with the trends on the runway.  Big, chunky, colourful, statement making jewellery is what everyone was trying to pull off.

I like to think of Haute Couture as a dream, where the creative and imaginative cells intertwine.

This season though, in the shows where most of the pieces spoke of one tone, where cropped jackets and squared shoulders were celebrated, I’m not sure if those cells met.  The silhouettes were clean and simple; from Armani Prive’s Asian-influenced tight skirts and pagoda shoulders to Dior’s waist-clinching, crinoline-bouncing, full skirts.  Let’s just say that Chanel and Gaultier topped the list for me but other than that, very few designers left me sitting on the corner of my chair.

The details were there, but they were subtle.  Perhaps the most ingenuous of them all came at Chanel’s show, where Japanese hairdresser, Katsuyo Kamo cleverly constructed all the paper hats and floral ornaments.  Genius!
