Glamour at the Oscars

It’s that time of the year again…when dozens of the slim gold man are handed out.  While everyone was eager to see how many awards Slumdog would sweep, whether Winslet go another year without an Oscar and the fight between Rourke and Penn, I was more excited about what the stars would be parading down the red carpet in.  Okay, maybe I was looking forward to the other things too…

Here are some trends from the show:

One-Shouldered Wonders

Probably one of the more prominent trends of the night, these asymmetrical pieces came in a variety of styles and colours.

Return of the Fish Tail

We saw this silhouette dominate at the Golden Globes earlier this year so it’s no surprise that it’s appeared again.  Tight fitted bodices and a free-flowing bottom definitely flatter a woman’s figure!

Statement Jewellery

Aside from the gowns, the jewellery on the red carpet this year were very much in tune with the trends on the runway.  Big, chunky, colourful, statement making jewellery is what everyone was trying to pull off.

Many of the dresses were very nice but when the stars wore them, they looked slightly disastrous!

My favourite was Taraji P. Henson’s. I also like the necklace she wore!
Jessica Biehl really could have made a better choice. And SJP’s dress was a bit too small up top for her!

Oh and I also learnt something about Ann Hathaway’s dress. On Channel E they zoomed in and it turns out that the texture of her dress looked a bit like “Fish scales”. Apparently those are called paillettes.
    Thanks, Jay Manuel!

The red carpet, the real glam of the Oscars, when actors, actresses alike are distinctive and expressive of their own style of couture. Several trends were prominent as SS stated; one shoulder gowns, of which I found Kate Winslet’s and Freida Pinto’s classical and accomplished. The black gold combination stood out amongst others, Beyonce’s bold and omnipotent thus making Halle Berry’s a perfect statement. Of the fairy tale princesses, Penelope Cruz’s vintage princess stole the show. Finally the glitzy shimmers and sequences — Anne Hathaway’s was overall powerful in its glitter as was Jennifer Aniston’s sufficiently radiant. Much of the jewellery and accessories were solid pieces, antique in look with a matt finish.
