Fashion, Film, Television Golden Globes 2010: Wet Carpet Glam

Last night’s Golden Globes kept me on my toes! So long boring red carpet – hello risky, fun fashion! I loved all the fashion that showed up on the red carpet – from the variety in dress shapes to the different hues and shades to the dazzling, exquisite jewellery.  The glamour radar was sky high even with all that nasty rain.

One of the biggest trends seen last night was ruffles.  We saw some edgy, roughly cut ruffles…

Ruffles

Zoe Saldana in Louis Vuitton; Jennifer Morrison in Luis Antonia

As well as some soft, cascading ruffles.

Cascading Ruffles

Anna Kendrick in Marchesa; Chloe Sevigny in Valentino; Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano

The bling was on on the red carpet.  Celebrities showed their glamour with beading, jewels, sequins and stones.

Jewels

Toni Collette in Elie Saab; Olivia Wilde in Gucci; Heather Graham in Elie Saab; Jennifer Garner in Versace

Some created a flattering shape with a jewel-clinched waist.

Waist Jewels

Courtney Cox in Victoria Beckham; Fergie in Elie Saab; Julie Bowen in Georges Hobeika

Coinciding with a major trend we are seeing in fashion, designers dressed stars in sharp shoulders.

Sharp Shoulders

Mariah Carey in Herve Leger by Max Azria; Anna Paquin in Stella McCartney; Cameron Diaz in Alexander McQueen

Lace-details peeked their way into dresses.

Lace Details

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior; Carey Mulligan in Nina Ricci; Penelope Cruz in Armani Prive

Stars in hues of purple looked royal on the red carpet.

Royally Purple

Sandra Bullock in Bottega Veneta; Rose Byrne in Lanvin; Jane Krakowski in J. Mendel; Leona Lewis in Roberto Cavalli

All the blush tones were far from boring.

Blush Tones

Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci; Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabbana; Elisabetta Canalis in Roberto Cavalli

Maybe it was the rain, but some daring ones chose to keep it short.

Keeping It Short

Kristen Bell in Jasmine di Milo; Julia Roberts in YSL; Amy Adams in Carolina Herrera; Ginnifer Goodwin in Vionnet

The one-shoulder never fails to deliver an elegant look.

One Shoulder

Drew Barrymore in Atelier Versace; Amy Poehler in Jay Godfrey; Jennifer Aniston in Valentino; Maria Menounos in Romona Keveza

One of my favourite trends was the sculptural look that some stars rocked.  Some showed rigidity with their architectural dresses….

Architectural

Christina Aguilera in Versace; Kate Hudson in Marchesa Bridal

While others took a softer turn with their dresses looking almost like origami.

Origami

Sofia Vergara in Carolina Herrera; Maggie Gyllenhaal in RM Roland Mouret

Finally, there are always the few mega risk takers that truly stood out in the crowd.

Entertainment, Fashion, Film The September Issue

september-issue

I finally had a chance to see The September Issue and I have to say, whether you are a die hard Fashionista or if you are just intrigued by the fashion industry, the documentary is definitely a must see! While the camera spends much of its attention on Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue magazine.  It also features other decision makers in Vogue, designers, photographers and the many outfits of Andre Leon Talley.

R.J. Cutler does a wonderful job giving a closer look at the woman behind the shades and the things she oversees at Vogue, but it was more interesting to see just how much influence Anna Wintour and Vogue have on so many different aspects of the industry!!! Very very eye-opening.

One of my favourite things about The September Issue was the focus put on Grace Coddington.  I have always enjoyed her work and she is truly a masterful stylist.  Many argue that she is the true hero of The September Issue.  She is amazing and there is no doubt about that.  But for the most part, creativity can’t be appreciated unless it’s put in front of your face…in other words, it has to be marketed well.  Vogue does just that, it takes the ingenuity that designers put forth and offers to the public in just the right way, in just the right doses.

Entertainment, Fashion, Film, Retail The Ugly Truth…not so Ugly

I watched The Ugly Truth a while ago and I can’t seem to get Abby Richter’s (Katherine Heigl’s character) outfits out of my head.  The RomCom started off with one or two typical outfits that an executive would wear but the fashion took a turn about 15 minutes into the movie.  Take a look at some of Abby Richter’s key looks and how to create them for yourself.

This sexy and curve-hugging little black dress by Armani was the hit of the movie.

Wrap dresses suited Abby as an executive producer.  It was professional enough for work, easy enough to be on-the-go yet still sexy enough for a date.

Though it looked simple, this beige bandage dress was probably my favourite.  The zipper on the back gave the dress a little edge.

The vest here adds some variety to a plain T-shirt over jeans.

I absolutely adore this locket Richter had on with almost every look.  It opens up as a watch; not surprising for the super in-control, organized exec that she is.
